- DNA evidence linked to at least 456 cases were mistakenly destroyed by the Aurora Police Department, according to a news release. This comes after APD Chief Daniel Oates announced Tuesday that DNA evidence in at least 48 sexual assault cases were destroyed in error this past January. The 456 cases include alleged felonies and misdemeanors. More than 360 of those cases are Arapahoe County investigations, 93 involve investigations in Adams County, and an investigation in Douglas County. The additional cases came to light after a comprehensive audit in anticipation of the first meeting of the DNA Review Panel, the APD release said.(GC)
- Larimer County officials are preparing to sue a Fort Collins company for failing to make good on a $250,000 settlement over a failed software project.County commissioners have authorized the start of legal action against Colorado Customware Inc., or CCI, because the company has stopped making payments to the Larimer County Treasurer’s Office as stipulated in an agreement reached last year.(Coloradoan)

- Colorado Lt. Gov. Joseph A. Garcia issued an executive order on Wednesday June 26 declaring a disaster emergency due to the West Fork Fire in Mineral, Rio Grande and Hinsdale counties.He also ordered that $12.5 million be allocated to battle the 83,004-acre blaze. He mandated the transfer of the funds from the state’s General Fund. The complex combining three area fires met the criteria for coverage under the state’s Emergency Fire Fund. “However, EFF funds were exhausted from previous fires,” the order said. The order makes $3 million available immediately for emergency response and an additional $9.5 million accessible after July 1. The state is eligible for federal reimbursement, and will apply.(GC)
- A brother and sister have been charged in a series of burglaries. Charles Darrow and Valorie Darrow have been charged with multiple counts of second-degree burglary and multiple counts of Pawnbroker’s Act Violations. The charges allege that from May 31 to June 20 of this year the Darrows broke into storage sheds at homes and churches. The charges allege those stolen items were later pawned.(KUSA)

- Early indications suggest Colorado’s most destructive wildfire wasn’t intentionally set.The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office says neither a dog nor specialized equipment have been able to detect an obvious signs of accelerants in the wooded area where the Black Forest Fire started.
